How To Keep Your Lighter Dry

Exotac Firesleeve

Having sure fire, even in the pouring rain is extremely important. Smokers will vouch for that statement! I have thankfully never needed to start a fire for survival purposes, but know that my lighter will work even under the most rainy conditions is something I thankfully don’t have to worry about. The Exotec Firesleeve, found on Huckleberry is perfect for any everyday carry where you want to make sure that you have sure fire. From putting one in the bugout bag (if you have one), or in the car to just keeping one on you in your backpack means that you’ll be able to get a light when you need it.

The Firesleeve fully encases a cheap $1 bic lighter (that’s ultra reliable, by the way), in an airtight, waterproof sleeve so that it’s ready to use when you need it. The waterproof sleeve fits the standard size Bic Classic Lighters perfectly and actually does keep water and moisture out!

Firesleeve Materials

The Firesleeve is made from a high end polymer plastic, and comes in black. It has the “EXOTAC” name on the side and is fully water proof (30 minutes @ 3 feet). You’ll notice that there are attachment points on both the cap and body. You can run a paracord line through both ends so you’re sure that you don’t lose anything, and also attach it to a carabiner, for instance so you’re sure you don’t lose it either.

Firesleeve Notable Features

Exotec FiresleeveFirst of all, the Firesleeve floats. If you’re like my uncle on a fishing trip and always dropping things in the water, than you need the Firesleeve! It’s water proof even when submerged three feet down for 30 minutes and still lights up. Additionally, as I said in the previous paragraph, you can attach the Firesleeve to a carabiner so you’re sure you won’t drop it.

Second, the cap prevents the gas button from being depressed accidentally (like when a lighter’s in your pocket with a lot of other stuff). You know that the lighter fluid will be at the same level when you need it as when it was last checked.

Finally, the Firesleeve has a gas lock that will allow the lighter to stay lit without holding the button down. Not sure if you really want to leave it lit unchecked for that long, but word on the internet is that you wouldn’t want to keep it lit more than 60 seconds for safety’s sake.

You might never need a lighter, but at some point, everyone needs to start a fire of some sort, and having a reliable, quick source of sure fire such as this really makes things convenient!
